FAMU was originally set to open in Jacksonville, but the state chose Tallahassee instead—on former Governor William Pope Duval’s old plantation. The rural land was overrun with wildlife, especially rattlesnakes. Embracing that, FAMU proudly adopted the rattlesnake as its official mascot.

Women should order the size they typically wear in women's clothing, men should order 1 size up (i.e. If you typically wear a Large, you should order an XL).
