Norfolk State University (NSU) was founded in 1935 as the Norfolk Unit of Virginia Union University, providing educational opportunities for African Americans in the Tidewater region. In 1969, it became an independent institution and gained university status. Today, NSU is known for its commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and producing leaders who impact the world.
