Watch HBCU Alumni on the Big Screen

We’re entering cuffing season which means it’s time to get serious about getting cozy. What better way to embrace the chilly weather than by cuddling up with your special someone and a blanket featuring your favorite HBCU? HBCU alums are everywhere, including the small and silver screens. Here are three upcoming and recently released movies and TV Shows where you can see these alumni do their thing.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Chadwick Boseman - Howard University

This sequel has been heavily anticipated ever since the highly successful Black Panther movie hit screens in 2018. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever posthumously features Howard University College of Fine Arts alumnus, Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in August of 2020. Director Ryan Coogler (Creed, Fruitvale Station) recently shared some beautiful sentiments about his time working with Boseman in an interview with CBS.

Coming to theaters November 11th, 2022

Kingdom Business

Yolanda Adams - Texas Southern University

Have you ever heard of a Gospel Drama series? Well, now there’s Kingdom Business. This BET original features gospel singer and TSU alumna, Yolanda Adams as she’s forced to defend her title as the reigning queen of gospel as a young and unexpected new star comes to the scene.

Released May 19th, 2022  and streaming on BET+

Oracle

Will Packer - Florida A&M University

Unlike Chadwick and Yolanda, Will Packer isn’t an actor, but a producer. You may recognize this FAMU alum’s work on hit projects such as Girls Trip, Why Did I get Married and Think Like a Man. His latest project,  Oracle is an R rated horror film with the following description:

“[Oracle] Follows a young woman who accepts a job on a property with a traumatic past. Upon her arrival, she soon realizes that the nightmares of her childhood are connected to the evil in the house.”

This movie is expected to be out this year but has not announced an exact premiere date. With only two months left in 2022, it has to be soon. Keep your ears to the ground because if Packer’s reputation is any indication, it's going to be a good one.

Coming 2022
