It's Homecoming Season!

It's Homecoming Season!

It is officially fall  and there's an electrifying energy beginning to buzz through the campuses of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). It's a feeling that can only mean one thing – homecoming season is upon us. With homecoming just a few weeks away, the time to prepare is now.  A tradition deeply ingrained in the hearts of HBCU communities, homecoming is much more than a football game; it's a celebration of culture that unites past, present, and future students in a week-long fiesta of pride, camaraderie, and memory-making. Take a look at our Homecoming Dos and Don’ts as well as a breakdown of some of the most anticipated HBCU homecomings of the season.

Homecoming Dos and Don’ts

With all of the excitement of homecoming, it's easy to get swept up in the buzz. Here’s a quick checklist to help you stay ahead of the game and make sure your homecoming 2023 is the best one yet.

  • DON’T wait until the last minute to make accommodations. People travel from far and wide to celebrate homecomings across the country, meaning hotels and Airbnbs will fill up before you know it. Confirm your lodging and transportation reservations ASAP.
  • DO buy your tickets ahead of time. Just like hotels and Airbnbs, events have limited space. Make sure to secure tickets to the events you want to attend the most before the day so you’re not turned away at the door.
  • DON’T lie about where you went to school. To many, homecoming is serious business and they will check receipts. Represent your school with pride but don’t front.
  • DO check the weather. Homecoming event days are packed and the last thing you want to do is get caught in the rain, or miss an event because you have to go back home to change. Autumn weather can be unpredictable so grab some layers, pack an umbrella and check the weather.
  • DON’T over do it. If your graduation year starts with 19, your knees probably feel a little different than they did back then. Resist the pressure to relive your college days by partying extra hard and instead, stay hydrated, be in the moment and enjoy yourself as you make new memories.
  • DO come dressed for the occasion. If there’s anything to do at an HBCU homecoming, it’s to come dressed in your HBCU best. Pack your favorite HBCU Leggings gear or visit HBCULeggings.com and check out your school’s selection. This year, Howard University has a reason to celebrate because HBCU Leggings is making a Yard Fest Debut! Now there’s really no excuse to not rock your HBCU Leggings. H-U!
