A Short Distance for a Big Impact

Can you believe the Washington DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance has already raised over $14,000 for their cause? Last year, the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance 5K Run Walk made a tremendous difference in the lives of Metro Atlanta students by raising more funds for Metro Atlanta students than ever before This year, the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance proudly joins forces with CareSource, aiming to provide two $5,000 scholarships to deserving students. This generous contribution, combined with the support of individuals like you, will have a profound effect, alleviating the financial strain that often accompanies the pursuit of a college education. It's truly inspiring to see the power of unity in action. Now, let's come together and rally behind The DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance  to maximize their impact. We have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of deserving students, helping them overcome financial barriers and pursue their dreams.

As you prepare for the Run The District 5k, we have some tips to keep you motivated and energized and to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle throughout the summer season:

  1. Explore Outdoor Activities: Take advantage of the warm weather and engage in outdoor activities that you enjoy. Whether it's hiking, biking, swimming, or playing a sport, being active outdoors is a great way to stay fit while enjoying the beauty of nature. Check out your city for some beautiful, scenic trails.
  2. Hydrate Regularly: With the summer heat, it's important to stay hydrated. Keep a water bottle with you and drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. Hydration is essential for maintaining energy levels and supporting overall health.
  3. Mix Up Your Workouts: Keep your fitness routine exciting by trying different types of exercises. If you’re used to working out indoors, try taking your routine outside.  Incorporate a variety of activities such as jogging, yoga, strength training, or dance classes to challenge your body and prevent boredom.
  4. Nourish Your Body: Fuel yourself with nutritious foods that support your active lifestyle. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats in your diet. Indulge in in-season summer fruits and vegetables such as juicy watermelon, sweet strawberries, and crisp cucumbers. Explore a colorful array of blueberries, raspberries, bell peppers, and tomatoes. Elevate your meals with the vibrant flavors of nature's bounty and nourish your body with the goodness of the season.
  5. Set Goals and Track Progress: Establish personal fitness goals and track your progress along the way. Whether it's increasing your running distance, improving your strength, or achieving a specific time goal, setting targets can help keep you motivated and focused.
